Fig 3. Shutter front after threads linking first to 2nd element have been cleaned

Here the threads have been cleaned of the green lubricant. The shutter front lock is still in the locked position.

The shutter front lock now needs to be rotated so that the cut away section is next to the lens element and the round bit is towards the edge of the shutter. Whilst this is possible to do using a special key in the 2 small holes, I found it easier just to push one edge of the lock with a small pointed tool until it rotated. Initially it was very stiff but freed up with several generous soakings of lighter fluid!

Fig 4. Shutter front in rotated position after lock released

Here the shutter lock is in the unlocked position. What you might find surprising (I did ;-) was the way the whole shutter front plate then rotated once this lock had been undone. If you compare this picture to the one above you will notice that the speed setting ring appears to be 30 or so degrees further clockwise round. However it is actually just the shutter front plate which has moved 30 degrees in the opposite (anti or counter clockwise) direction. This can be confirmed by noticing that the relation of the shutter speed ring to the 2nd element lens notches has stayed the same.

Now using the notches in the 2nd element - I was able to unscrew it from the shutter body using a thin piece of metal.

Fig 5. Shutter with front elements removed and front plate unlocked.

Here the 2nd element has been unscrewed showing the clean threads in the shutter body. These have no lubricant on them as only the front element rotates during focusing. You can also see the exposed shutter blades.

The shutter front plate now also lifts out easily. Just grab the infinity stop post and lift. A small screwdriver blade inserted underneath the edge helps here.
